Lost Cross Recovered After One Year – NJ Ring Finder

Not every recovery happens quickly. Some take patience, persistence, and a little bit of luck. This one was a year in the making.

Last summer, a young man lost his cross while playing ball on the beach. A post about it quickly appeared on a local Facebook page, and many people tagged me. Shortly after, I received a call from Brian, who explained that the cross belonged to his nephew. It was a very sentimental piece that had been in the family for years.

I asked Brian to have the original post taken down since it revealed the location, and he did. But after that, communication became difficult. About nine days later, I was near the area where the cross was lost, so I decided to swing through with my detector. Within 15 minutes, I had a cross in my scoop that looked exactly like the one described.

The only problem—I lost Brian’s contact information. Months passed before I was finally able to reconnect. When I sent him a picture of the cross, he immediately confirmed, “That’s it. I can’t believe you found it!”

We both agreed it would be best to return the cross in person rather than mailing it. But as time went on and schedules became busy, the return kept getting delayed. Nearly a full year went by before we were finally able to meet up this August during Brian’s family vacation to the Jersey Shore.

At long last, I was able to hand the cross back so it could be reunited with its rightful owner. It was a heartfelt moment and a reminder that sometimes recoveries are a marathon, not a sprint.

Persistence paid off, and this special family treasure is back where it belongs. Moments like these are exactly why I do what I do.
